| Last part of my vacation - CA Poppy Reserve Original Message posted by Carol, 4/20/08, 10:17am | ![]() |
![]() On the way home from Mt. Diablo I decided to stop at the California Poppy Reserve. It was a windy afternoon so the poppies were closed but there were few people out and about and the clouds in the sky made for a glorious afternoon. I hiked the north and south Antelope Trails as well as part of the trail up to Antelope Butte. ![]() More photos here :) http://www.tarol.com/poppyreserve2.html

That is amazing. I've got to get out there before the poppys go away. We went there several years ago and it looked much like it does now, which is the best it has been for the past several years.

Neat! Is that the poppy preserve in Lancaster? I'm thinking of going there later this week. A friend's daughter sent me a Flat Stanley for her school project and I've been trying to decide where I'll take him...

I was out there several years ago and that is hiw we went, I think.

The one I'm talking about is the Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627). It's only a few miles from me. I've been seeing a lot of signs around here that the area is really in bloom right now.

I just remember we took a road from the 14 to the I-5. It went directly through the preserve. It was incredible. The hills looked like they had orange carpeting.

The poppy reserve is quite a ways from the 5.

It's between the 14 and the 5 south of Hwy 138. The bloom is supposed to be peaking now. Go in the morning to hopefully avoid the wind in the afternoon.
