Ok, so you may or may not be a fan of Wikipedia. For me, it is a daily read and sometimes you learn about something sorta odd. So this morning, I see this little tid bit that I thought I would share with you.... from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Order_No._11 | General Order No. 11 is the title of General Ulysses S. Grant's infamous order of December 17, 1862, during the American Civil War, that all Jews in his district (areas of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Kentucky) be expelled. General Order No. 11 is also the title of the August 25, 1863 order that all persons living in Jackson, Cass, and Bates counties in Missouri, and in that part of Vernon included in this district, except those living within one mile of the limits of Independence, Hickman's Mills, Pleasant Hill, and Harrisonville, and except those in that part of Kaw Township, Jackson County, north of Brush Creek and west of Big Blue, were to be expelled and their lands burned. |

The Jews, as a class violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department and also department orders, are hereby expelled from the department within twenty-four hours from the receipt of this order. Post commanders will see that all of this class of people be furnished passes and required to leave, and any one returning after such notification will be arrested and held in confinement until an opportunity occurs of sending them out as prisoners, unless furnished with permit from headquarters. If you read the entire text, you'll see that after some protest and Lincoln got into it, the order was quickly recended.
