My piece of heaven was surrounded by the Rich Mountain Wilderness Area and was off limits to all hunters. Walking up the side of my mountain I once saw a very large woodpecker, I thought was an Ivory Billed. It was very large and flew around me as I walked. A short distance away it landed and I remember the size of it. It was from 14 to 16 inches tall. It watched me as I watched it. It had just rained and with the sounds of the river off in the distance it was a pristine moment for me. Message #15450 of 18360  *NEW* To From Subject Date Robert Jones Larry Levy   The Birds! 10/6/06, 8:28am While we are on the subject of birds....I was sitting in my kitchen this morning at about 6:30 eating breakfast and suddenly outside the window a great blue heron landed on our neighbor's roof. It walked down the roof and hopped into their neighbor's yard. I hope they don't have a koi pond! I've lived here for 21 years now and I've never seen one of these birds there before.
