Christine Update

Hi, everyone,

Just an update for all our friends on the board who have been following Christine's BMT journey.

Christine has been admitted to the main hospital at City of Hope. She has developed a fever and it is feared she may have suffered a graft failure. Last month she had a graft test that showed the donor marrow had 100% grafted, but her counts have not risen.

I'll post more updates from her Yahoo Group as they become available.

Please continue to keep this brave, young woman in your prayers.

-Larry

PS: I was just on her website (www.savechristine.com), but it looks like the hard drive is down and they are rebuilding the site.

Man, I don't even know this gal, and I was moved to tears just reading her last update:

A Post from Christine on 10/9/06:

I am fighting through a sedative fog to write this so forgive me if i sound less than eloquent. The past 24 hours have been a terrible storm of 104 degree fevers, cramping, burning, violent chills, heart palipilations, swelling and malaise. My blood counts plummeted to critical levels, lower than when I was moved to the village. I am writing because a doctor said that this may be an indication of graft failure. What that means is that even though the marrow grafted, it may fail to produce enough white cells, red cells and platelets to keep a patient alive. So I just need you guys to pray for me because there isn't much else the doctors can do if that is the case. I'm tethered to IV poles again. And honestly, though I have peace in my heart for whatever God has planned for me, I'm sorta scared right now.

It's so weird to live in these extremes. Saturday night I spoke to a black-tie standing ovation, escorted to the stage by Mr. Helford himself (as in the guy whose name is on the hospital I am in right now) and the very next night I am too weak to stand and fighting for my life. I was shaking in tears throughout the night because of the pain and my mom tried to comfort me by saying, "just remember last night, you were in glory." One day the
you feel like the world is wide open and the next you feel like the world is ending. But you just got to keep pushing and going and loving and BELIEVE.

She really is an amazing person.

She needs our prayers and thoughts a great deal right now.

They believe her problems are the result of a severe infection brought on by her low blood counts.

This is the latest update:

"I was at City of Hope around 4:00 PM this afternoon (Tuesday)and I tried to visit with her. I wasn't able to do so because she's in no condition to have visitor's at the moment. And she's under heavy sedation (to alleviate some of the pain). The team of doctors working on her still have no idea what's ailing her. Of course, this adds to her fear and frustration.

She wants all her friends to know that she's received your messages, but she's too sick to respond to the many emails, phone calls and well wishes. Though she does thank you all and is glad to know that she's in your prayers.

She also wants everyone to still come out to the bone marrow drive (in her honor) on October 28, 2006, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM @ CINEMA SECRETS, 4400 Riverside Dr., Burbank, CA 91505. IN-N-OUT BURGER will be there selling burgers to help raise money as well as awareness for Christine, myself and the hundreds of other patients in need of a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. So come out and bring your appetites and tell a friend!

Oh, and she's hoping to be at the Sing-A-Long as well which will be at City of Hope. (I'm not sure of the date for this event.)

On behalf of Christine... thank you and keep up the faith. Your
prayers greatly are needed.

Jerome"
