A Cry in the Night
10/17/06, 10:11am (Last Edited: 10/17/06, 10:16am)
I was sitting outside by the water last night collecting some thoughts at about 1:30 a.m. Way off in the distance I heard the sound of squalling tires followed by breaking glass and crunching metal, then a car horn blowing non stop.....then across the wind way out in the distance came the wailing sounds of a woman screaming. Somewhere in my mind something whispered "Robert, don't get involved"

I could not refrain from getting involved. I got in my truck, called 911....the accident had not been reported. I told them what I had heard and asked that they get someone in the area and I drove out and found the accident nearly a mile away in a residential area and relayed the location to 911 to assist in getting emergency vehicles on scene.

In this case I don't think any of the injuries were life threatening but one victim of the crash was transported by EMS.

It was not that I wanted to get involved...I really didn't...maybe it was the sound of the woman screaming.....somehow I heard those screams over the distance of nearly 1 mile. I felt as if someone was in trouble and I had to help if I could.

You did the right thing.

Glad to hear your 911 works better than ours. I've called ours several times, at all hours, and I'm always on hold for a good five minutes.
