>What is it with the evil that is afoot in our
>world....pregnant women being killed...babies thrown from
>bridges...women being killed by drifters? Why is all of this
>happening? There is a lot of ugliness and evil out there.Cant disagree with your premise, and your rationale that those of us who lead lives of normalcy, trying to be the "best we can be", often find ourselves in shock as to the evil surrounding us., I do believe there are more good, than bad.
However, as Marie said, where there is good, evil is also in attendance.
I do believe evil has always been with us,now , it gets reported on, on a daily basis, the mass media, is global, this is obviously a 20th century phenomenon.
The London of Dickens was full of murder and squalor, as was the New York of Boss Tweed and Tammany hall, where roving gangs killed others on a daily basis to further their attempt to obtain political power by means of mostly knives, axes and swords.
Today the weapon of choice is a magnum, a 9mm or most prevalent in the "so called 3rd world", the AK 47.
Again, Evil has always been with us we now have more efficient means to kill more people.
Watching "60 minutes" tonight, I learned that there is presently an ongoing war in which up to 4 million have died, therefore the most costly war since W.W.2.
It is not Darfor, it is not in the Balkans, not Iraq.
A war has been going on in the former Belgian Congo since the mid. 90s, a "spill over" from Rwanda, the "inept" U.N. has more forces stationed there than anywhere else., yet overall very little information is reported on the "nightly news".
We get most of our information from "Entertainment Tonight", or "Access Hollywood", for most of us, if it is "not happening to me", it is "not happening", sad really, but in trying to lead our own lives, that is an understandable reality.
My Sons, grew up, and went to school in the San Fernando Valley"
I shudder to think of "inflicting" those same schools on them in 2008.
I live in a relatively "crime free" area and am lucky to be so advantaged, however, serious crime could be going on "around the corner".
"60 minutes" depicted a war in which innocent civilians are the majority of the casualties, Women and Children are often targets, and rape goes along with the wholesale burning and destruction of people, and villages.
Watching this tonight, I was reminded of the invading Roman Armies, or the Vikings, whose sole existence was predicated on how much plunder, and destruction, they "left in their wake".,
Of the Army of Nazi Germany which inflicted the "most heinous crimes " in the history of mankind, or of the "Imperial Army" of Japan, the people of Nanking China will never forget that which was referred to as "the rape of Nanking".
I feel very fortunate to have spent my life in the U.S./U.K, most, are not so lucky., there is certainly plenty of evil around us, I prefer to believe there is more good.
In many countries today people are living in the "time of the Vikings"
