Since they only open in the evenings and I had a mandated inspection of the Boondocks that I had been postponing for an evening I planned it so I could inspect the business first then if it was satisfactory, I would dine there for dinner before continuing on to my other inspection locations. Their reputation is above reproach with a number of friends telling me that I need to try it. Someone else told me that the cook from another reputable resturaunt left there to cook here.
I planned my inspection to try to avoid the crowd and to arrive just as they opened around 5 pm. As its name states it is in the Boondocks sitting adjacent to West Bay right where the Bay connects to the Intercoastal Waterway. The floors are hardwood with a georgous view facing east up the bay. You can dine and watch mullet jump and watch as tugs push barges through the Intercoastal Waterway. If you are have spirit for adventure you can take a floatplane trip or an airboat ride while you wait for your table.
My surprise inspection of the resturaunt revealed the cleanest resturaunt I have ever seen. The inspection went great and I was impressed. The sweet tea was great and the fried oysters were succulent. Hospitality was abundant as the patrons seemed to be entranced by the ambience and the spectacular view of the bay. Jimmy Buffet added just the right musical touch keep in theme with the nautical environment and the stunning scenery.
The food and service and cleanliness rated 5 stars. I have never had better. As far as prices, one could expect to pay somewhere between $15 to $30 per person for their meal including tip. The one drawback is that it is kind of off the beaten path in the town of West Bay. The town consists of a school and a resturaunt and an out of business convenience store. It is about 15 miles north of Panama City Beach on highway 79.
