I don't know about you folks but Im anxious about going into the holidays with all the goodies and sit down dinners every time you turn around..

Anyone got any secrets as to how to avoid that 10 extra pounds?

Don't eat!

I have already been prepping for the coming holidays, unfortunately. I just got on the scale, and after two weeks of not thinking about calories... I gained SEVEN pounds.

Back to the grind.

Same here. I haven't been on a good hike in over a month and it's really starting to show! I have to get back out on the trails soon...

Never could understand that but I still have lots of little kids and family around. Must admit we didn't even put up a tree last year and it was wonderful. We just celebrated at other folks houses.

Isn't is aggravating to have it "show" so quickly? You work hard to keep in shape.......take off for a few and you are back to square one.

A couple secrets Ive adopted....Buy a good weight scale and use it every day at the same time. And if the sucker goes up even a pound make a change in diet immediately. Its so much easier at that point than when its 10 pounds you have to get off.

I thought you weren't really eating until the end of the year? Well..anyway, my thoughts on watching the holiday weight is..don't go nuts, but enjoy yourself!. (For me personally, I like to fill up on the turkey and leave the pie for someone else..but that's just me cause I LOVE a holiday turkey meal!)

And of course, get the exercise in. (I was able to ride today after fighting off that cold/flu thingy. It was tough but enjoyable.)

You know, I have another friend that didn't celebrate holidays much. So I will make you the same offer I make him..YOU are invited over here on Christmas day/eve for a turkey dinner! (That means that you can sit with Mister Barr.)

Actually, last year was the one time I really did something for Christmas. My brother and I spent it together here in Vegas. I have no plans to do anything this year, though.

I have a pretty good scale and weigh myself once or twice a day. When the numbers started going the wrong way, I stopped, though. I'll get back to working on that when I get home.

It's tempting. I'll be working Christmas this year, though.

Honestly... I get tired after the first 100 or so yards. I remember the days when I could've seemingly ridden my bike straight to New York City.

Maybe I'll start trying the bike again.

Well then take BB up on his offer. How could you resist? The nurses were talking about their experiences celebrating New Years in Vegas. They said its a real kick. Have you done that?

I bought a digital weight scale and I have this computer program called Weight Commander which is terrific! How it knows what it knows is beyond me.....

I can't. I have to work.

Nope. Never done that, and I never will. My brother did one year and he said it was WAY TOO FRIGGIN' CROWDED! As in an hour or two to walk a single block, and forget trying to drive anywhere. I hate crowds with a passion and that would make me absolutely nuts.

I hadn't heard of that one. I have a program whose name I can't remember offhand (I never installed it on the laptop). I think it's called Diet Doctor or Diet Diary or something like that. I tracks weight, caloric intake and calories burned during exercise.

You know, there is a school of thought that says that you should throw away your scale because it has nothing to do with anything. Body fat measurement and a full length mirror are considered better indicators.

My scale measures body fat also, though I've heard those aren't really all that accurate.

Personally, there is nothing like a full length mirror. But I also have reached the point in my life that I have to accept who I am. I really can't get in more miles on the bike..and I LIKE my lifestyle..so..what you see is what you get.

(and on the bike path, I still kick the crap outta kids half my age!)
