Well Lar, seeing as how you and Lonburger didn't show, we used a couple of blow up sex dummies in your place.

You looked pretty interesting with your mouth in that "O" position....

Yea, but by then you had tasted it. Now you say that you liked it, but you were going to judge the food on WHAT it was and not the taste? What if it WAS the penis from a jackel? Would you be saying today that you could have eaten the whole plate?

Of course, I'm just pickin' on ya! But one of the things that I have learned about eating things that I don't know where they come from, is that I HAVE to go on taste. If it weren't for taste, I would never had tried anago (sea eel) or Uni (urchin roe), both of which are REALLY damm tasty.

But hey...whatever floats yer boat eh?

You are correct.....I shouldnt say I dont like ALL shushi until Ive tasted it.......but Im gonna so get over it! LOL I just cant get my brain to like raw fish. Im not a big fish eater in the first place.

In the case of your apple cooked sausage I would have been honest and said it was great no matter what it was BTW. They were delicious!

Well..not to worry. MOST of the alcohol is baked/cooked out, leaving mostly the flavor. My thinking was that, you don't drink because you don't like to drink and thus, would not be a problem adding the flavor to the food.

In Lonburger's case, IF HE HAD shown up, I would have gone for a different dish with NO alcohol. Maybe..hot dogs!

I didn't say I didn't like Chinese take out! In fact, for Easter, we are having our traditional Chinese take out meal!

(Anything is good for us...we are easy to please!)

It's funny that you say that because I too am not a huge fan of cooked fish. Never really was. Oh, I can do some salmon or catfish, but the other day the wife brought home some halibut from Whole Foods. Good...fresh fish...but just not to my liking.

But, when I first had raw fish, my world opened up! In fact, my fav sushi, yellowtail, to me..does not have a great taste when cooked! Go figure...

Y'know, it's been a long time since I've had a hot dog. Ya gotta have plenty of chili, cheese, diced onions and mustard to go with them, though.

If alcohol was used to prepare it, then yes I would have something to worry about. That's kind of a problem area for me.

I was just reading a web page somewhere yesterday about some of the best April Fool's jokes, and one was about a radio station that ran a report about how the bad weather was causing problems with the local spaghetti crops. Apparently, quite a few people called the station to ask where they could get a spaghetti tree so they'd be able to grow their own in case the shortage got out of hand.

Don't you just love how gullible people can be sometimes... LOL

I didnt realize that using alcohol in food that was cooked would make a difference. At one time I was on medication that warned me not to drink any alcohol....Went to a Christmas party and they had these yummy looking...what looked like little balls of gingerbread. Popped one in my mouth and it was soaked in rum.....I went as quickly as I could to the nearest bathroom and spit it out.

Hey, I used to have one of those! But..it was eaten by one of the local Nagas.

Wish I had caught it too, seeing as how there is a shortage of Naga Hides.

I have had foods...breads and such..that, like you found, are FILLED with booze and I really don't like them much.

Alcohol that is cooked in food, MOSTLY goes away..but not entirely. Alcohol does some pretty amazing things in food too, like help to break down proteins and such, as well as add some flavor. However, it is not manditory and can easily be "changed" to something else if someone chooses to keep away from the stuff. (and like I said, I always respect someone's choices in these matters without question.)

That it is!

I remember back when Steve Allen had his own talk show in the 70's, he did a similar one with a "telephone pole farm." They interviewed the "farmers" and showed one guy watering baby telephone poles (toothpicks) It was really funny!

I didnt know that alcohol broke down the proteins in food. Is that a good thing? Is it easier to digest that way? Of course if some one needs to stay away from it I would avoid cooking with it as well.

With Easter less than a week away I was thinking about my two friends that have severe diabetes and how difficult that must be.
Whats an Easter basket without candy...for those that celebrate this holiday?

I buy sugar free candy for them but only small amounts can be consumed because of the intestinal problems it causes.

In my case the interaction with the meds would not have been a pretty sight.

Yes, alcohol helps to make the food a tad softer. Also, citrus does the same.

Personally, I am not a big candy fan, but I think that you need to think outside of the box if you want to give an easter basket to a diabetic. Bran muffins can be "carved" into an egg shape. If the person can have peanuts, then they make great looking little "eggs" too.

Of course, the whole bunny/egg thing comes from a very old pagen holiday that the Roman Catholics sorta "piggy-backed" on. We used to celebrate this but our neighbors made us stop...
