Odyssey Brunch

Once again, I got the chance to pig out!

The Odyssey...up on the hill..is rated "#7" out of 10 in El Lay for brunches. This last weekend my parents came out to buy us brunch for both of my kids' birthdays (they go to 20 and 18!) and that is where we went.

Here it is Thursday and I am STILL full!

Oh, they had the traditional stuff..eggs, bacon, sausage..plus a few really nice add ons to those like eggs benedict. But they also had...

...sushi, fresh waffles, roast beef, ham, made-to-order-right-in-front-of-your-face omlets, tacos with all the trimmings..osters, crabs..real crabs not that play-doh stuff..shrimp shrimp shrimp, cakes and pies, bagels and cream cheese and lox and onions and tomatos, they had salmon cooked as many ways as you wanted, and the full salad bar that is a fixture there all the time.

Ok...the tacos didn't look THAT good because all they had for shells were those Fritos things. But the add-ons were great! Even the meat was nice..without the shells.

But hey..I even did a full shellfish plate with oysters, crab and shrimp. Sometimes, you just have to play with your food!

Anyway..if you are in the mood for a REAL feed..or..have out of town guests and you want to impress them with good food and of course, that great Odyssey view...

I've been to the Odyssey for their Sunday brunch and it was always good. I think they also own The Castaways in Burbank? Is that still there?

By who? You need to include cites with these kind of claims...

Sure sounds like a great place, though. One of these days, I'll have to give it a taste test, too.

The Castaways is still there. They rebuilt it after the arson fire a couple years ago. I've only been there for dinner once, and that was maybe 1980. I've driven past a lot on the way to some trails in the area, though.

The Odyssey is practically down the street from our house. Rob and I have been there for the champagne brunches. YUM! What a spread they put out.

Ok, cool. I went there once many years ago, way before the fire.

I've only eaten at Castaways once. I think that was in 1979 or 1980.

We're having dinner at The Odyssey tonight.

Rob and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner there as well. It was great! We've also been to several weddings and wedding receptions there. Nice place.

Yep, I used to go there a lot when I was dating. Unfortunately, one time I had the same waiter as the previous time, but it was a different date. She just looked a lot like the girl I had brought there the time before. So, the waiter, just trying to be nice says, "Great to see you two again!"

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!! Busted!!!!

Needless to say that was another of a long line of first and last dates

I think those huge banquet rooms are the key to the succes of the Odyssey. When I was in the radio biz, there were times when we would go up there for one function for lunch..and the go back that same night for a different function and the walls are all moved around and in a new configuration.
