You read that right!I have seen this done on various shows and as you know, I make my own pizza dough...also...it has been really really HOT here lately so running the oven up to 525 is not really a GOOD idea.
So, here is what I did..I made two pizzas and placed each on a sheet of Release foil. I heated up the BBQ with the lid down till it was well over 600 degrees. I popped on the pizzas and then brought down the heat.
Normally a pizza takes about 9 minutes...so I watched my clock till half of that was gone..and then went out and turned OFF the BBQ, just letting the rocks and ambient heat continue with the cooking. THAT worked out great!
The top of the pizza was done..but not really brown..and the bottom was nice and crispy. Can't say it is "better" than the old oven..but it sure was better on keeping the house cool..and besides..it sounds so neato to say that you BBQed a pizza!
