>Did Ashley join you on this one?No. The peak is within the San Jacinto Wilderness State Park and dogs aren't allowed in that area.
>Is San Jacinto Peak third on the list? I would guess the S.
>Cal order by elevation is : 1. Mt. Baldy, 2. San Gorgonio, 3.
>San Jacinto?
Baldy doesn't even make the top ten. It's the tallest mountain in L.A. County, but not Southern California's.
From the USGS maps, these are the 19 tallest peaks in Southern California, all of them over 10,000':
1. San Gorgonio Mountain (11,499')
2. Jepson Peak (11,205')
3. Bighorn Mountain (10,997')
4. Dragons Head (10,866')
5. Anderson Peak (10,840')
6. Charlton Peak (10,806')
7. San Jacinto Peak (10,804')
8. San Bernardino East (10,691')
9. Shield's Peak (10,680')
10. Jean Peak (10,670')
11. San Bernardino Peak (10,649')
12. Folly Peak (10,480')
13. Dobbs Peak (10,459')
14. Marion Mountain (10,320')
15. Grinnell Mountain (10,284')
16. Lake Peak (10,161')
17. Drury Peak (10,160')
18. Ten Thousand Foot Ridge (10,094')
19. Mount San Antonio (aka Mount Baldy -- 10,064')
San Jacinto Peak, Jean Peak, Folly Peak, Marion Mountain and Drury Peak are all in the San Jacinto Mountains. The rest (except for Baldy) are all in the San Gorgonio Wilderness area of the San Bernardino Mountains. Baldy, of course, is in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Also, the USGS maps are a little old and some of these mountains have newer "official" elevations. For instance, San Jacinto is now considered to be 10,834'. Bighorn Mountain is now considered to be 11,005'. San Gorgonio's latest measurement says it's 11,501'. The rest probably all have similar increases.
>BTW: Huell Howser had a neat show on idyllwild last night. It

It's a very neat little town. It's kind of like Big Bear without the lake and just a little smaller.
