The entire time that I was in the Brooks Mountain Range in Alaska I was plum giddy with the simple sheer joy and excitement of being in and amongst the Brooks Range. I almost wanted to simply jump up and down and scream out “I am in the Brooks Range!” For me it was such a place of legend as I have read many stories that took place in this largely untouched and extremely remote area. I will probably make this a two or three part series on the Brook’s Range and the Dalton Highway. I will conclude this first piece with photos. MAny photos will have parts of Gates of the Arctic and ANWR as part of the background as I was very near both areas. Each installment will be rather short as it takes considerable time to place the photos and edit the dialog. The first photo is of the Arctic Interagency Visitor Center. This center is a visitor center for the various Wildlife Refuges in the Area including ANWR and for Gates of the Arctic and possibly other National Parks nearby (Nearby in Alaska terms) This building is amazingly modern for where it is. It is located at Coldfoot Camp along the Dalton Highway and is very remote. The building had already closed for the winter when I was there.
