North Georgia Trip Report.

On 5/31 I left my house alone for a drive to the Lake Burton area in the North GA mountains to purchase 100 Bobwhite Quail. I made good time and got hung in Atlanta traffic for about 45 minutes on the way up.

I met with the rancher, who was a down to earth person, and from our short meeting you got the feeling that he and his family were as good as gold.

They caught my birds for me, he bid me farewell and off I went, returning home.

I made it home without a problem.

I sat down later and figured the miles and travel time. I drove 6.5 hours, .5 hours at the bird ranch and drove 402 miles. No breakfast, lunch or pee-breaks.

Even though this type of travel may seem a little hard for most people, it was very enjoying for me. I will be repeating this trip again on Saturday with my father. I'll have to stop at least twice with him riding shotgun.

Also, I will have pics to post.

Hey Randy, when you take yer dad, take a digital cam with you! Those pee breaks can be motivational!

When I made a move to Oregon a few years ago, I too would do marathon driving. It gets you there and quickly..but you miss everything that isn't right in front of you! If you can..slow down and see the sights!

Howz the bird biz these days?

Who buys them? And for what purpose?

This trip took a little longer and we bought well over 200 birds. I drove up to the ranch, because I knew the way and my father drove home. I got some cool pics on the way up of Dad when he fell asleep with his mouth open. I also slowed down when I passed cars to let them look and laugh at him. It got so funny that I almost rear-ended a vehicle and had to swerve, causing Dad to hit his head on the window.

I didn't have time to watch my surroundings along the trip. I promptly fell asleep and slept all the way home.
