The Hidden Waterfall

There is a hidden waterfall on the Sequoia National Forest... Hidden in that most visitors drive within 1/4 mile of it on one of the major forest roads and don't even know it's there. It does appear on some maps, a small blue line crosses the stream to indicate a fall, but you have to look carefully to spot it. It isn't advertised much because it is not an especially safe place to visit. A boy died, fell to his death here, a few years ago, and there have been others. The trail down to the fall can be tough to find, it is relentlessly steep and the rocks are very slippery, especially the ones on the ledge that you can walk on to be behind the fall. But the waterfall is known by a few people, mostly locals. If anyone wants to see it, I will take you there. That is what one old-timer I met says he does. He doesn't tell just anyone about it because it is a special place, but he'll take anyone interested enough there, that way he can also make sure they get there and back safely. So if you happen to know where this waterfall is, I ask you to do the same.

It is a beautiful place, especially early in the summer when the snowmelt rushes off the ledge and falls about 80 feet to the rocks below. These photos were taken about a month ago.

Ever wonder what other "hidden" things there are to find out there?

Wow!

Years ago I was taken to a "hidden" waterfall right on our own coast! (I am fairly sure that area is now..sadly...fenced off.)

Hi Carol....Hey my son and his family are staying at LodgePole all next week. They have a new canvas sided fold down trailer. Told them to keep an eye out for the Ranger named "Carol." They are paranoid about the bear problem BTW.
