Guess what I just did...
7/14/06, 12:09pm
I'm writing from the Bahamas. Hubby's at a conference and I spent the morning swimming with dolphins. What playful yet majestic beings.

I'm told that parts 2 & 3 of Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed just on the other side of the island.

Off to the beach -- a real luxury for a land-locked gal like me!

Sounds like you are enjoying life's pleasures to the fullest. I had a huge sea lion rush up to me and slap a big old kiss on my face almost knocking me down in Cabo San Lucas last year. That was such a thrill and surprise.

Try Hang gliding yet? Now that takes a lot of nerve if you ask me.

Keep on having a great time. You guys deserve it... I bet they took professional pictures too with the dolphins, hope you got them.

Crazy summer. We're in Boston now, visiting Hubby's parents. They finally got broadband, and I'm in heaven (I was bracing myself for dial-up).

We're also temporarily homeless. Sold our old Victorian in Denver-proper to move to the suburbs. But we have a few more weeks before we close on the new house. So we roam.

As for the dolphins...wish I could have been a bit more exhuberant reporting about them. I thought swimming with dolphins would be almost a spiritual experience. Maybe it would have been in the wild.

But I was very aware that these dolphins were PAID to frolic with me. They were treated to silvery fish each time they "kissed" me or "hugged" me. Silly me for not anticipating it to be such a commercial experience.

Still, the dolphins were fascinating, powerful, impish, and as easy on the hands as they were on the eyes. I just love how it feels to stroke one.

I'm glad I did it once, but don't plan to do it again.

I read this the other day and thought of you...

"It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English -- up to fifty words used in correct context -- no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese. "
