Have you been there? Got a good place to stay? Whats your favorite attraction? What else is there to see? We're taking the kids next weekend.

I was there a couple years ago. I need to go back. One thing I remember most is that it's expensive!

I can't help with a place to stay. I drove there in the morning and home in the evening. All the attractions are great, though. I didn't do any of the rides, just the shows. The "Fools with Tools" show was pretty neat, as were the Dolphin Discovery and Pets Rule! shows (though I don't know why they had that last one, since it was dogs and cats -- nothing to do with sealife). They also had a neat Cirque du Sole kind of show, but I got the impression it was a temporary thing. I could be wrong. Of course, you also have to see the Shamu show. Just don't sit in the lower bleachers unless you really want to get drenched.

The pictures from my trip are at http://www.ldphotography.net/Travel/20040819/ if you want to look through them and get an idea what's there.

Lon's right about it being expensive. Just remember to mention yout AAA discount and anything else you can think of.

As far as places to stay go, see the thread on our trip down there a few weeks ago. The Hilton is really, really nice, but expensive. Pretty much all the hotels around Mission Bay are pricey. I'd also check rates for the Islandia and the Bahia. Paradise Point is the old Vacation Village. We used to love that place, with its quaint bungalows and bay views, but the new owners have priced it out of my league. Downtown has some great hotels too and they are not too far from Sea World and are very near Seaport Village. We've always stayed at the Embassy Suites there.

Mainly run these on expedia.com, hotels. com, etc. Also, don't forget the search engine Lon mentioned.

Any questions, just ask!

You sure got the "expensive" right! We couldnt find a motel within 10 miles that was near $100! We ended up in Escondido!

Perhaps we can slip in as elderly folks and get a discount. Havent any interest in seeing a dog & cat show...that is kind of strange but the circus de soli whatever would be great.

Gotcha on sitting to close at any of the water shows although with the temps back in the upper 90s getting soaked might not be such a bad thing.

Hey BTW what was the name of that URL you use to find reasonable motel rooms? Thought I bookmarked it but didnt.

Tanks Larry.........I'll let you know how our weekend goes. With kids 13 and 9 it'll be fun just watching them if nothing else.

The best I could find was $235/night at Hampton Inn!!! The Hampton Inn we stay at in Bloomington, IN is about $100.00 a night.

Escondido is a big "schlep" from San Diego...and it will be hot too. You might check some nerer the coast in North County San Diego, like Carlsbad and Oceanside. Just be careful with hotels in Oceanside as it's near Camp Pendleton and the Marines sometimes rent them out for extended weekend parties...Could be loud!

You should also check the hotels around "Hotel Circle" off I-8. It's just east of Mission Bay and usually less expensive.

Sounds good.

BTW: The Wild Animal Park is really neat and it's not far from Escondido.

We will go right by it when we leave Julian...but not sure we'll have the time. From the sound of it Sea World can take the whole day.
