I was doing a bit of reserch today on the geology of the Santa Monica Mountains and I ran across a web site by one of my old CSUN professors.

There was a photo album in there of a hike in the San Gabriels he did in 2006 from LACoFD Camp 9 to Magic Mountain (The peak not the amusment park!)

Along the way they ran into this fellow....

They were able to get within 15 feet before he flew off. He was soon joined by a buddy...

I've never seen a condor in the wild. It must have been amazing to see two in one day and be able to get so close to one

That would be very cool! I've never seen one in the wild, either. I've hiked to Condor Peak a couple times. It was named that because the condors used to hang out in that area. But, that was a long time ago.

That would be amazing. This one was far from the Sespe condor reserve. It was above Bear Divide near the County Fire Camp.

Next time I get out that way I want to try to seek out some Condors. I would get a real thrill out of watching them. Thanks for sharing Lary.

You bet. I may go with you. Bill and Lon have some good areas to check out.

Cool In November 2005 Todd and I saw 9 condors at Big Sur at close range perched on cliffs above and below us and flying overhead. It was awesome! They're such amazing birds. A couple of photos here: http://www.tarol.com/bigsur2.html

Neat!!!

Well, I'm determined to see one in the wild soon!

It must have been amazing for the professor who took the picture I posted. He was able to walk up to about 15 feet from it.
