What have you heard? Is it really better or would you stick to what you've got?

Stick to what you have for now. Let them work out the bugs, and more importantly, let other software and hardware companies see how their stuff plays with it. I plan to wait at least a year, probably more.

Definitely what Larry said. Looks good from what I have seen... I still prefer my Mac.

I think I will avoid it. I dislike the entire concept of a computer doing the censoring of material. Big brother is already looking over our shoulders, and I do not like the idea of the computer making decisions. Sony, with it's copywrite software already did harm to lots of computers out there, and from what I've read, screwed things up for many people playing legit copies. I will not buy vista, at all, as I don't trust it to not do just what sony's program meddling did. I'll move to a different operating system before buying it.

And, on the issue of Vista vs. Mac, take a look at this video (has a preview of Vista). Funny stuff.

Thank you Rob. Funny for sure, but I bet you don't remember when there was a gas station at all four corners of a given block. Different companies. Don't know why that stopped, but then Arco was then called Richfield when I was 17. Yes I know, tons of years ago...OMG!

It is fair game rather than rip off, I think. I won't change until you advise me to though, as you are "da computer master of the family" lol

Huffing and puffing to stay abreast of state of the art technology. Whew, I cannot blink day to day or I fall behind.I was near 40 when I started computering... and that was with your help, as you know! Whew.

I probably will too. Im of the opinion if it aint broke why fix it sort of.

Like buying an iPod.....It really intrigues me but guess what? They tweaked the software so that you cant do anything with the music you buy but send it to THEIR product to listen to it.

Correct me if Im wrong here folks.

You're wrong, but not by very much. It won't give you the files in a format readable by another MP3 player, but you can write them out to an audio CD. Once you have them in that format, you can use any other CD ripping program to convert them to MP3 format.

There's a third-party iTunes replacement front-end I've heard of that makes it much easier to deal with the iPod and convert files back and forth, but I haven't tried it myself. Right now, I can't even remember the name of it.

For what it's worth, I have a friend who's been running Vista for about a year now, and he just raves about how wonderful it is. Personally, I won't be running it until I have to, next time I upgrade my computer. I'm very tempted to go to a Mac, but even if I did that, I'd still run Windows on it in Boot Camp. I have far too much PC software that I rely on to be Mac only.

Have you forgotten who you are typing to? Anything that has more than two steps.....turn it on and turn it off is pretty much over my head. LOL Far as a front-end thats a whole different story....but thanks for the input Lonnie

What a royal pain it is to have to deal with someone on a Mac. My gf has one because she is the senior graphic artist for a large nation wide corporation. Half the time I cant open what she sends me and she cant open what I send her.

Ive heard if you work a lot with graphics the Mac is the only one to have but............

>So do you have the Mac OS X?

I got an Imac last April, and it is my computer of choice at home. So amazingly easy to use. There was definitely an adjustment period, but I love it so much for its ability to handle music, CD burning, DVD burning, DVD creation, music recording, podcast production, web browsing, word processing, digital photography, photograph sorting, photograph editing... just about everything.

And, if a program crashes, it doesn't screw up the ENTIRE computer.

If Vista makes the PC more Mac-friendly, I say: that's a good thing. BUT, I still prefer the Mac.

It *USED* to be a pain. I port back and forth all of the time (work computer is a PC). No problems. With mp3s... with doc files in Microsoft Word... text files... anything.

Do you have any trouble crossing over/sending stuff that isnt compatible with Windows?

I have trouble opening her JPG files. Found the only program that will is Corel. For me its mostly email and being here so all the mp3, burning cds stuff isnt important.

In some circles you'd get jumped for that remark. LOL My gf just returned from a Mac convention in San Francisco where they introduced the iPhone. These are dyed in the wool Mac users.

Obviously we "hang" in VERY different circles...
