HELP! How to increase photo resolution...?
3/1/07, 5:57pm
I'm going to have an article published (more details when it's a done deal), but the photo I submitted needs higher resolution. Is there a way to do this?

Or do I have to take another photo -- and if so, what do I do differently?

Here is the request from the magazine:

"I was hoping you might have a higher resolution version of the photo? We need the image to be a certain quality to reproduce well in print. This usually means that the file size is at least 700 kb or, if you're familiar with digital image specs, that the resolution is 300 dpi or above."

Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't know how to help you, but I have asked many questions to Booga and Mr. Canty and have always gotten good answers. I will call Booga for you so you can get a response tonight (maybe). I don't know where Mr. Canty is but Murph probably does.

You can't. You can always resize smaller, but not larger. Well, you can, but it'll look like crap.

If you don't have a larger copy of the photo you submitted already, the only real option you have is to take it again using the largest setting your camera supports.

Very happy for you Lori. Let us know as soon as feasible the name of the publication.. Proud of you! You certainly deserve much kudos for the sincere hard work you do to help others achieve the fulfillment you and you family have.

Have you thought to go to a camera store with your picture? Usually people that work there have required knowledge about your needs. Just an idea.

Always fun chatting with you. We wondered where you went.

Lori,

Sorry I didn't quite understand your question last night. Lonnie has pretty much covered the topic. You will need to retake the photo with a higher digital setting or with film.

You might also check to see where you have the images stored. If you retrieved it from say Webshots you might have retrieved a lower resolution version of your pic. If you have the original on your computer and used it then you probably used the highest resolution version.

I'm confounded by this in a couple of ways.

1. The requirements are at least 700 kb. The one I sent said it was 920 kb.

2. When I tried to correct the red eye, the file size went down to 320 -- whaaaaa?

I'll try to post later after my meeting (I really should be paying attention here) using Saundra's/Robert's photobucket technique.

Thanks!

That's very strange. They should be asking for specific dimensions not filesize.

You saved it with a lot of compression. You don't want to do that. What program are you using to edit?

Try Photobucket. It is user friendly. If I figured it out right away, you will have no trouble. It makes it easy and fun. Hope it all works out for you.

You know, I just thought, if they want your picture, why don't they send a professional out like they did for me and my Duchess III?

Are you still in Florida?
