Firefox VS IE 6.1

I was running Windows ME, with IE 6.1. I was reading in WWW.Grownupgeeks.com last night that Firefox was a better browser than the IE. I live out in the country (meaning that I can't see any of my neighbors, because we all own large land parcels) and I have to have my internet by satelite dish. I have had the dsl before and I know it is very fast, but it's not available where I live now.
Anyway, It took about 1/2 an hour to download Firefox and and import everything from IE.
Later on in the evening, the new browser began running real slow and eventually crashed my computer. I cranked it back up and started deleting the Firefox. After doing so, I was unable to get back online even with a backup ie disk.
This morning I re-loaded the firefox from a history file and everything seems to be ok and it actually seems to be running much faster. Can anyone give me the pros and cons on both browsers. I'm the kind of guy that doesn't fix anything that's not broke, so I've been running a version of ie for many years.

I like Firefox, but I still use MSIE.

If I were you, I would try to get a copy of XP and upgrade your system to that. That is, if you have a fast enough processor and at least 1 gig of RAM. ME just plain sucks.

Me and my dad share the computer. Its and old gateway with my flatscreen, my mouse and keyboard. I installed the satelite modem and I upgraded his speaker system to the equivalent of a Bose sound system. So, it's a throw together system. I have been trained somewhat to be able to "build" a system of hardware, or to simply replace hardware parts. We both know now that ME is crap, but it's all we have for now. I'm going to buy myself a decent laptop this summer and maybe by my dad a new desktop too.

Cool. Well, the prices on desktops are coming down. You may want to think about not getting one with Vista as the operating system. MS is still have problems with it playing nice with some software.

Thanks. I usually try my best to research everything, before paying for it or using it. I'm getting worse about that with age.

Me too. More age and less money in my case
