Firewall Follies

Our new Dell came bundled with Symantec's Network Security. I haven't gone ahead with the install yet as I remember our office's network consultant saying to stay away from it at all costs. I did some net research and the reviews confirmed that. So, I took a look at Zone Alarm as I remember hearing about it on here. The reviews for that were just as bad if not worse.

I downloaded and burned to CD a copy of the Sygate firewall as that seemed to have some good reviews (83% positive on download.com).

Does anyone have any experience with that? Any other suggestions? I wonder if the Earthlink DSL we have on order has a hardware firewall?

Thanks,

-Larry

Zone Alarm must have cleaned up their problems with the new version. I put it back on my computer and its working great.

Usually, a hardware firewall is in the router that you use in your house.

I just got a notice from Road Runner that they have their own firewall in place. Not sure I like that much, but I guess it is nice to be able to stop some of the nasties out there.

I'll check with Earthlink. They probably have a hardware firewall that is included with the DSL modem.

I decided not to install the Symantec Internet Security app. I installed NAV, so atleast that is working.
