Last Saturday, we completed our required Community Water Safety Course at the American Red Cross in East L.A. Fortunately, there were no problems with the navigation this time. We had an entertaining and informative instructor with an easy name to remember: "Bobby Bloome." Two other couples were there who were also adopting. One couple looked to be in their fifties. The other looked to be in their late 30's. All of us future fathers were named Robert. Strange. Anyhoot, I was appreciative of Marie on this day because she could've given me the riot act. Some buddies of mine planned a "Friday Night Poker Tournament" night. I had told Marie: "I shouldn't be gone passed 1:00am." We had to be in East L.A. by 9:00am. When I walked into the bedroom at 4:30am (a $100 winner), Marie only asked: "How'd ya do?" -- even when I probably smelled like a six-foot ashtray. Needless to say, my two hours of sleep weren't enough. When we finished the four hour course, had a nice lunch in Burbank at the Market City Cafe (Marie got a salad; I ended up with a huge Calzone), bought a wine decanter at Ross, and headed back home... I crashed. It was about 4:30pm. When I woke up three hours later, we watched SeaBiscuit, and I attempted to watch American Splendor... but fell asleep again. This time, for good... I woke up briefly crom the couch to crash in our bed... and I was out like a light until 9:00am, Sunday. Next week: all day CPR and my fantasy baseball draft Sunday. -------------------------------------------------------- "Treat the Earth not as if it was given to you by your parents, but as if it was lent to you by your children." - Kenyan Proverb "The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism by those that do not have it." - George Bernard Shaw --------------------------------------------------------
