Should I or shouldn't I?

So the kids and I are hanging out at a playground and I see a Caucasian woman with her Asian daughter. My instinct is to begin a conversation around our common bond - adoption - but Im not sure she would welcome my inquiry. After all, I might just be another nosy (or worse, bigoted) busybody.

What I usually say is, Are you an adoptive family, too? Most times we then share our stories.

But sometimes I get the brush-off. She may just move away. Or give a dirty look. Or look at her watch and pack up.

Is it presumptuous or annoying for me to mention adoption? What do you think?
