This scanned image (emailed from my brother who received it from a friend in England) is an actual sign that appeared in the subway there.

I like the "look a bit foreign" part That would never pass ACLU muster over here

A side note: Many of our youth counselors are of Persian (Iranian Jewish) descent and they always get looked at funny when they are carrying backpacks and one of the counselors (Ramtin) has told me he gets pulled out of line at airports a lot.

Jeebus. This sort of lines up with previous news that 99% of Brits have the same blood now that they did ten centuries ago.

But, please, people, think. When the sun was never setting on the British Empire, 75% of the people it never set on weren't white...

Or, in other words: this.

Er - I think it's a) a fake and b) just humourous if not. I do not like the implication in the previous posters response about the British - would you care ot be more specific in your damnation or just gloss it up with meaningless quotes? Are you implying racism?

Truth is, were I a little "foreign looking" in London, I'd be doing just that: walking slowly, making eye conatact smiling, offering my backpack for inspection to anyone.
I am a "foreigner" as a white man living in Asia, and if a "white man" blew up things many times in this nation and its neighboring nations, I'd be expecting the same kind of treatment. I'd also be trying to find a way to stop this kind of mad behavior. If it were my "community" that were doing these terrible things, I'd use all of my power to stop it.
Cheers,
Slim

I'm in london and one of my friends took a picture very similar to this one, probably of the same sign. He says he saw it at the Notting Hill Gate tube station, which has been closed since the attacks on 7/7 and won't open again for a while, so it's most definately a joke.

This could actually be real as non-uniform policemen shot dead a Brazilian man this week who's only crime was that he was *running* away from guys pointing a gun at him.

It was mistaken identity apparently. They thought he was involved in the bombings here on 7/7. BBC news site has loads of info on the story.

no way! really??

Bad taste joke or not, it kindof implies knowledge of the unfortunate event which did happen in your subways. I couldn't imagine a information officer telling his guys to post a warning to those who "looked a little foreign" to keep their heads down, don't run, carry rucksacks, or wear dark coats as official policy in the wake of that event.

You guys have been trolled by a subway lurker

No, what's this you say? British police killed someone who failed to comply with their shouted instructions to "Stop" after a couple of bombing incidents in the very same locale the bombings took place? What brutal insensitivity on the part of the bobbies! People who choose to ignore authorities' orders in such highly-charged situations deserve whatever they get. I'm sure that if a terrorist was able to detonate a bomb because the bobbies were painstakingly making sure his civil rights weren't being violated, you'd be bitching about that too. Talk about a no-win situation. We're sick of you bleeding hearts who are more concerned with terrorists "rights" than basic common sense. Eff you and anyone who thinks like you.

Damn straight - if we had a bit fewer laws protecting the offenders in this country, and a few more protecting the victims or potential victims, we'd all be better off for it.

The Brazilian man in question was a legal resident. He didn't "just ignore" the bobbies, either. They were in plain clothes. Whether they identified themselves is unknown and whether he could understand them is unknown. Two things that are known is that the police immediately lied about his actions and what he was wearing in order to justify the shooting. Also, bobbies don't carry guns. So, if your in England and someone in plainclothes pulls a gun on you what would you think? These policemen went from a no firearms policy to a shoot to kill policy overnight. The result of which is this totally innocent guy got shot 7 times in the head and once in the shoulder. What's that got to do with bleeding hearts or terrorists? Get your facts together before you go on right wing tirades, dumbasses. BTW, i'm a cop.

To the person who spoke of the reason they shot the brazilian man was because he was not cooperating with orders. What would happen if you were visiting in Rio and a bunch of guys in plain clothes carrying start yelling at you in a foriegn language. You'd run like hell, get shot, and you're family would be on the news bitching about how corrupt the police in Brazil are.

He wasn't a legal resident, his student visa had expired which could explain his actions. And as for not understanding what they were saying, if he was a student at a London University he obviously understood the basics of the language and "Stop! Police!" is something every traveler to a foriegn land needs to know how it sounds before they go! If you don't, you may be next! Guys in street clothes in London with guns in a busy Tube? Gotta be Cops, any potential thief or street thug would be comitting suicide attempting an armed holdup in a crowd like that, especially after the first bombing. And a robbery involving firearms in England are rare due to the stiff penalties you recieve if caught.

I think American cops (or bobbies if you wish) tend to shout and identify themselves once - maybe twice. Then if the person doesn't stop they could be chased and maybe even tazed. Now which is worse - bullets or electricity? I think if any police officer tells me to stop I will freeze in my tracks, thank you very much.

On the contrary, he was not 'innocent'. While he was not involved in terrorism activities, he was in England illegally as his visa had exprired quite some time previously.

Hence why he was running from the law. As an illegal alien, he was unfortunately the author of his own dimise. In the situation they found themselves in, the police had an awesome responsibility - one that I would not undertake. I hold them blameless and feel the young Brazilian man made a terrible and tragic mistake by not following the laws of the country as he knew them to be.

His visa had expired and the shoot-to-kill policy has been in effect since 2001.

It's one way of dealing with illegal immigrants and scroungers. No compensation for the family, he was here illegally earning money and not paying back into the system.

F him and his family. He may not have been a terrorist, but he was not innocent.

No ,it's not actually a real "subway" sign as you call it. It's actually a computer rendered hoax of a real london "underground" sign that a prankster has circulated arpund the web. Although the depth of our humour cannot be appreciated by you yanks, be assured that our countrymen would never stoop to such levels for a laugh, when it could be easily misconstrued by an ignorant foreigner.

Your statement that the brazilian was simply "running away" from officers pointing their guns at him belies the real situation in which London has been experiencing ongoing, viscious, cowardly terroristic activity primarily involving the Underground.
tragically ,this fellow, (said to be wearing an overcoat in hot summer weather), chose to run away, vaulting a turnstile and headed directly to a "tubetrain", where TWICE in the previous two weeks bombers had struck.

The London Metropolitan Police force, is the BEST trained force in the world,( L.A.P.D. officers are at this moment over there in a learning capacity), it was THE FIRST civilian Police force in the world, founded by Robert Peel in the early 1700s.
My Father was a member for 30 years as was a step brother, sister, and first cousin.
They do NOT shoot to kill unless they have good reason, the ONLY way to stop a potential suicide bomber is to do just that.
The officer involved will probably be unable to continue his duties and has been given paid leave, the "Met" has sent he and his family on a "paid for holiday", GOOD FOR THEM.

Ben Stein, (an American columnist and writer) appeared on the Fox channel recently, he stated "The British people are the Bravest, most courageous people on the face of the earth", you wont have to "twist my arm" to agree to that, well said Ben.

We are a very stubborn people, who believe in tolerance ( many of those perpetrating these acts have been subsidised and welcomed as refugees, allowed to spew their "Fascistic hatred", something they could not do in their previous countries.,how dare they "bite the hand that has given them sustenance and refuge, "fair play" is also part of the culture, however "mess with us at your peril", we are at our "best with our backs to the wall" and DO NOT give up easily.
As Ben said "they picked the wrong people to mess with.
As per guest 48027, I say to guest 46165, "EFF you too".

To guest 56021, my son, (the "founder of this site) has been "somewhat" indoctrinated by a VERY British father , he is WELL aware of ALL things British, by the way it is US British and US "Yanks" who are in this TOGETHER., so to you 56021, you also get a "eff off".

To guest 40613, if 99% of Britons have the same blood as a thousand years ago, then us Welsh must be closer to 100%.
The sun will NEVER set on the MOST benevolent Colonial power in the history of man, having made the world a "much better place"

By the way, why are you "guests" anonymous, why not sign in??

If one looks at a map of the world, the MOST STABLE nations in the present world were ALL formerly British possessions, what a great legacy, RULE BRITTANIA, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

P.S. if any of you, the aforementioned, "look a little foreign", stay off the "buses", "Tubes" and "mainline rails", AND DEFINATELY do not fly "Virgin" in other words "ON YER BIKE, MATE"

Re: Are You A Little Bit Foreign?

I looked a LOT foreign for my 7 years living in Japan. I spoke fluent Japanese, with a Hokkaido accent. I ate Japanese food all of the time. I totally avoided other NON-Japanese, I had a Japanese lover and lived in a Japanese style apartment, complete with a Japanese/Asian toilet (no seat). I found it interesting that I could place an order over the phone, with absolutely no problems, and then say that I would pick the item up on my way home, and have the shopkeeper tell me it certainly would be ready. But - then - when I would tell him/her that my name was Mah-Ten (Martin) they would freak out! I mean, they would act as though I had been trying to fool them, or something.

Yes, I was a LOT foreign for 7 years. But, you know what? It was my choice to live there. So - I accepted it.

Listen up all you FOREIGNERS in a FOREIGN land. Get over it. Or - just go back to your tribe!

I want to thank you for that. We made the modern world, not enough people recognise this.

I thank you too., wherever you are, for responding.
I live in the U.S.A., I am sad to say that most in this country are unaware of World History, ( I mean outside of the U.S.) .
Sadly, many see the U.S. as the entire world.
I CHOOSE to be a dual citizen (British/ U.S.), I am a U.S. Army Veteran and therefore believe I have earned the right to critisise.

I also agree that the modern world owes much to us , British, namely, the part of the world which adheres to our principles of Fair play, democratic government, tolerance of ALL beliefs.
We can be critisised, but the BEST of us has been copied, to the betterment of all who choose to copy, that is why we have a GREAT, in the name .

As a U.S./ British , Citizen, I will always be proud , I was born British.

Ms. Saundra here...forgot to log in...

Well Mr. Reed it is certainly nice to saee you back on our robbie's incredible bbs board.

I must say I missed your ramblings. I really know where our Mickey gets his gift of "gab" politially speaking., having said that..I offer kudos to you and the Brits and I daresay, I don't think I disagree with you...Say What!....

The day you became a United States citizen was a proud one for our family, and whilst I know how very proud you are to be a Brit..I saw the look on your face and having served this country and paid humongous taxes you realised you deserved to be a U>S>A> er too.

Regards Warmly, Da "X"

democratic government, tolerance of ALL beliefs.
We can be critisised, but the BEST of us has been copied, to the betterment of all who choose to copy, that is why we have a GREAT, in the name .
