In a surprising move, I just read that President Bush is proposing a law that will allow Mexicans entrance into the U.S. if there is a job waiting for them.

I did a double take, during the reading.

It isn't April Fool's Day, right?

Isn't this going to kill the conservative Bush vote in California, Arizona... and even Texas?

I want to see/hear the other side of this coin. He may indeed give a free pass to some..but maybe he will start to clamp down on others. (Like our open border that has even Mexican officials smuggling in people from the Middle East!)

I wasn't condemning the idea, really. If it means that Mexicans can freely come and go back (like Canadians) when that Mexican can show the s/he has a job here, I say... cool.

Just surprised that the proposal was being made by a Republican President in an election year, especially.

A Democrat, in an election year, I can easily comprehend.

It could be that ol Bush is reaching across the isle for votes. (Then again, he could have a huge contributor in Texas that depends on south-of-the-border labor.)
