Unemployment?

I had this exchange on blogsforbush.com (regarding the recent news that in October, over 300,000 jobs were created in October... yet the unemployment rate went up a tenth of a point to 5.5%):

Limbaugh was spouting on this on Friday, too... and I just had to LAUGH.

While there were over 300,000 jobs created in October, the unemployment level rose to 5.5%.

This means that there were more jobs lost than gained, no? How else does the unemployment rate increase?!?!?!?!?!

How else does the unemployment rate increase?

Simple. Increase the number of people actively looking for work. Perhaps you need to understand the way that the BLS calculates its numbers before you make statements that make you sound uninformed.

And, the increase in looking for jobs is because of Bush and his administration?

Nah. Let's thank tornadoes for this "good" news.

Thank you for your brilliant insight. Now go find your minder, it is probably time to get hosed down before bed.

Scaramonga:

As I am so uninformed, maybe you could help explain this graph for me (from the BLS)?
