Bullitt is 'coolest'?

I have a very personal connection to this movie..my godfather was the producer on this...and lemme tell you, I have heard stories over the years about certain scenes...for one, during one scene they had a camera mounted on one of the cars and McQueen was going to drive it himself, even though he would not be on camera.

....when he crashes, you can JUST see a little flash....

OK, here is an article from The Sun about a survey that ranks certain movies. I know not WHERE this survey was taken, or when..but it looked interesting:

"e-MOVIE buffs have voted Steve McQueen’s Bullitt the coolest movie of all time.

The DVD of the hunky cop could be the perfect Christmas prezzie for the woman in your life.

McQueen topped a list of screen smoothies — beating Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke, below, and Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca.

Films in the TV Times list featured a man adored by women.

Bullitt won for a variety of cool factors, including the split-screen format and great soundtrack.

The 1968 film, set in San Francisco, features one of the best car chases in cinema history — later recreated in a Ford advert.

The magazine said: “It’s easy to see why McQueen was known as the King of Cool.”

In Cool Hand Luke, one of Newman’s memorable scenes saw him trying to eat 50 eggs to win a bet.

Top ten coolest movies:

1 Bullitt (1968), starring Steve McQueen: “High-octane car-chase.”
2 Cool Hand Luke (1967), starring Paul Newman: “Cool when teased by sex kitten.”
3 Goldfinger (1964), starring Sean Connery: “One of the coolest cars of all time.”
4 The Wild One (1953), starring Marlon Brando: “Made leather jackets a must-have.”
5 The Matrix (1999), starring Keanu Reeves: “One cool dude with shades.”
6.Out of Sight (1998), starring George Clooney: “Not since Cary Grant has grey hair looked so cool.”
7.Dirty Harry (1991), starring Clint Eastwood: “An oft-quoted thriller.”
8.Pulp Fiction (1994), starring John Travolta: “Gets to strut his disco stuff again.”
9.Casablanca (1942), with Humphrey Bogart: “Snappy suits, smooth demeanour, owner of the coolest bar.”
10.The Ipcress File (1965), starring Michael Caine: “Made wearing glasses cool.” -quote&

Any thoughts?

Wow! that's neat about your Godfather. I love that film.
The new Mustang commercial with "McQueen" is classic. One of the best spots I have seen in a long time. I love that new Mustang too.

I think I agree with most of the list. I might move Dirty Harry up a bit.

I hate when lists HAVE to include modern films.

Keanu's "Mr. Anderson"/Neo was cool... but not Carey Grant, Rock Hudson, Bogart, James Dean, or Brando cool. Not even close. A cooler and similar character would be Wesley Snipe's Blade.

John Travolta in Pulp Fiction... COOL? He was a sloppy killer, had a few scenes where he read a book sitting on the toilet, and he was sloppy chubby. In short, about as "cool" as, say, Kermit the Frog in the Muppet Movie.

If they wanted to put in a modern-day character, I would put in George Clooney from the modern Ocean's 11, or Brad Pitt from Fight Club.

Most of the other movies in the list, I have not seen (including Bullitt).

I agree. I don't think his character was intended to be cool. Bruce Willis' character in the movie was much cooler. So was Samuel L. Jackson...

Aha. One I forgot... if ever there was a cool character in modern movies it is John McClain (Bruce Willis in the Die Hard series).

I'll give you that the character might have been cool..but I think that Willis overacted the part and I found it rather unbelieveable. IMHO.

The one time I met Mister McQueen in person, it was after Le Mans and he was "incognito"..he had a super long beard and hair and looked like a homeless dude.

I also remember Chad..as a spoiled little shit....

I loved Pulp Fiction! I thought it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Travolta's character(Vincent Vega) may have not been cool in your opinion, but what do you expect? He was a hitman. I think he did a great job, given his role & what the movie was about. Samual L. Jackson & Travolta were great together in that movie. Pulp Fiction single handedly put John Travolta back on the map. Maybe Travolta should thank Quenton Tarantino. I believe Tarantino is a brilliant writer & director. He created a brand of movies that was fresh & different from your main stream, a little off the wall you might say. Pulp Fiction came along at the right time when it came out.
