Just took the kids to see the new Harry potter movie. Not bad, but reading the book deminishes the movie. They did not even have Dobie in it!

I don't remember Dobie being a major character in the 4th book... I thought that this film was the best of the four... dark as I had hoped... performances were really good.

I liked this director a lot... took the good bits from Chris Columbus and the last director... dark... but with bits of whimsy (and Chris Columbus was all about whimsy).

Hope this guy directs the next...

I enjoyed the first movie but I have not gotten around to reading any of the books and I missed the second and third movies. This movie kind of left me at a loss as some of the underlying story line escaped me. I left the theatre kind of thinking..."Okay?, Hmmmm? What was all that about? The movie, as Rob said, was a little darker and a little more sinister than the first one, and perhaps it just me, or perhaps because I have not followed the series, I did not enjoy the movie as much, at least it did not grip me and hold my attention as fast as some movies are capable of doing. My rating 2 of 5.

Yeah, I wouldn't really expect it to make sense if you hadn't read all the books or at least seen the other movies.

Without seeing the second and third films (or reading the books), you lose out on a LOT of the subtext.

The guy who spoke to Harry from the fire in the fireplace? Key character in the third movie.

"Wormtail," the man who was assisting Voldemort in his reformation was a key character in all of the films, it turns out... only he "changed form" in the last film.

I do have to admit that if I hadn't read the book, I would be lost a number of times in this film -- even having seen the first three films.

There are a lot of small vignettes in the film and items filmed that are there certainly to appease the book reader, but which would be completely missed by the person who only sees the movies.

Still, I loved this film.
