Not a good last few days for San Diego sports fans. First our beloved Chargers lose to KC and then the Padres get shut out of the playoffs.....

The Padres shouldn't have lost the game on a bad call like they did, but the season really turned bad last weekend when Bradley stepped on Mike Cameron's hand and later had a "Milt-down" Bradley with the ump which amazingly resulted in his tearing his ACL. Just weird stuff!!

I didn't watch any of this game directly, but I was following a live game stats internet feed, updating the situations. It looked like a done deal going into the bottom of the 13th... amazing way to finish the season.

And, of course, one of my current, fave players Matt Holliday has all but assured his National League MVP win.

I think it will be a split NL MVP between Holliday & Rollins.

I think so too. Check out the final play on youtube and let me know what you think of the call. Poor Holliday landed smak on his face.

That's a tough call Larry. They are both very deserving. AL Cy Young? How about Carmona from Cleveland? I think Beckett will edge him out though.

For consistency throughout the year, I think you have to give it to Carmona or Sabathia... I think, were I voting, I would go with C.C.

For the National League Cy, I think it must be Peavy.

You are right, Larry... this will go down as a controversial call, I think -- especially if the Rockies go further through the playoffs.

Good picks. I'm thinking Peavy too.

I just read Trevor Hoffman may retire.

As Bob Ueker said in Major League, "Frankly, I think we got hosed on that call."

Barrett drops the ball, but Holliday never does touch the plate and then he's hurt(I think he's still pulling gravel out of his face), and he doesn't go back to touch the plate.

To me, the key is the umpire who doesn't make a call initially. He seems to be waiting for Holliday to go back and touch the plate. If he felt that Holliday had touched it, he would have called "safe" a lot sooner.

Wow!

I haven't been able to follow much baseball lately...I could only name two to four of the playoff teams at this moment.

I'm more into college football and basketball, myself.

Agree!!!

The other instance in the same game was the disputed HR.

Believe it or not, me too... after taking a hiatus from the podcast, I barely know anything that is going on with the game. In fact, I probably know more about what is going on with football than baseball (because of my participation in a fantasy football league, where I entered in knowing next to nothing about current football players).

Rockies are looking stellar against the Phillies, so this is definitely a controversial call... what was the homerun call issue?

Whether or not the ball hit over the yellow line on the outfield wall. I thin k that was in the 7th inning? I didn't see that part.
