Baseball Players Conspire to Bean Umpire

This was a news story of interest for baseball affectionados. In this case a high school championship game in Georgia turned ugly. An umpire made an unpopular call. When the team took defense the pithcer zinged a fastball and the catcher alledgedly ducked out of the way intentionally causing the homeplate umpire to take the pitch off of his face. The players involved begged innocent blaming a cross up of signs for the mishap. Video of the incident shows a different story as the catcher's eyes did not track the ball and he appeared to be ducking out of the way.

The catcher had been invited to walk on at Gordon Jr. College. The college has withdrawn that invitation. The college has let it be known that they do not condone such behavior and expects more from its players. I agree with the college on this one

That looks pretty obvious to me that the catcher just ducked. It didn't look like he was crossed up at all. From my experience when a catcher gets crossed up he usually tries to move quickly to catch the ball, especially when there are runners on base!! In this case, he rather slowly ducked down.

Video is no longer available, unfortunately. That'll teach me not to read here for long periods of time. Boo to me!

I bet if you search it might be around somewhere on the net.

As a followup, the Dodgers just drafted the catcher in question. He still denies there was any wrongdoing and that he was just crossed up. It sure doesn't look that way to me.

I thought so too. The catcher still maintains he was crossed up.
