Do you think that is true? I don't...I mean the Yankees are certainly deified...but what about the Dallas Cowboys..can't you say the same thing about them & football?

When the Yankees sucked (in the Mattingly days, most recently, which I am sure were Dr. Rub's favorite days as it relates to the Yankers... er ees...), you wouldn't see an article like this... sort of a "what have you done for me lately" thing... and the Cowboys are ridiculously bad now.

I think there definitely is an east coast bias... perfect example is the need to label a novel offense, by a West Coast team, a "west coast offense" (ala Bill Walsh).

Why couldn't it be the "Walsh" offense? Nah... because the east coast bias is so prevalent, that when this expression is used, it almost feels like it is used like the British -- during the American Revolution -- must have have referred to the "Colonists' Strategy" (i.e., with a lot of disdain).

It's sort of like notorious racist Ty Cobb commenting on Frank Robinson's managerial skills (if he were alive to see them) as the "black strategy."

Just to feel better, let me remind the East Coasters that we're coming close to the century mark when the Red Sox last won the World Series.

Great link Robert! Don't know how to really respond to this one. I think most, if not close to all of the east coast bias centers around New York City & their sports teams or franchises. Example: I never here the Philadelphia teams or Baltimore teams, or Pittsburgh teams, & whoever else on the east coast talked about as much as the New York teams. I think there is also a bias that exist in the main stream media, particularly in the northeast, against the south, & also against much of the west! ESPN hates the Braves! They just won't admit it! They recently did a poll question on the Braves. They asked if you loved the Braves, didn't like the Braves, or if you were getting sick & tired of the Braves. Most people answered sick & tired of the Braves. Gee, I wonder why! Knowing that ESPN's main audience is from the New York market & the northeast market! Most people up around those parts have never liked the Braves. Why haven't they asked the same poll question about the Yankees? Mmmmm, I wonder why? To me, it might have been an effort by ESPN to smear the Atlanta Braves. Their effort was to make the rest of the country outside the northeast & New York area to think that the whole country in general hates the Braves. Even just the poll result would get people atleast thinking, maybe we should join the bandwagon & hate the Braves to! It's a conspiracy theory! Sabatage! Remember, I bet that 80 or 90 percent of the people who voted on that poll question were from the Northeast or New York City area of the country. I may be wrong, but I'll bet you I'm atleast close to being right!

Don't know if the "I'm sick of the Braves" thing is an east-coast, NY preference... but, I agree, that ESPN never seemed to like the Braves.

As a Dodger fan, I -- for one -- am very sick of the Braves.

I don't blame you! The Braves deserve some credit for winning as long as they have, however, they should atleast have 1 or 2 more World Series championships other than just the one they have! They have failed atleast in that one department! 11 straight division titles is pretty impressive though & should make it 12 in a row. They'll find away to choke in the playoffs though like they usually seem to do if they don't choke in the World Series! I hope not though!

I am as still as die hard a Braves Fan as I have ever been. I suffered through the lean years and I got a death grip on the dynasty ones. The Braves are going to win the series this year. (I Believe!)

Well, the Braves are a close second to the Buffalo Bills 'cuz at least they won a series... and, there's no doubting that the 90's Braves to present are arguably the most dominant professional sports team in history.

Still... can the Braves go away for awhile and give some of us lowlier ball clubs a chance?

There is a big difference between the Yankees and Braves which is......

I like the Braves

Another big difference is that the Yankees and fans are a little jealous.

I really miss the old NL west days of the Braves and Dodgers rivalry. I miss Lasorda as manager too. I was die hard Braves fan when they were perennial cellar dwellars back in the days of Royster and Mathews and Burroughs and Lum and Horner and Murphy. I think Niekro was there as far back as I can remember. So I paid my dues to the cellar now I am enjoying the Chablis.

Up to now my attention has been affixed on general Discussion, Politics etc., well yall dont talk about Man. United, Beckham---err- real Madrid( Madreed)., well thats how they pronounce it, named after me and my Sons.
Anyway, tonight I decided to take " a Peek" at the "sports section", Wherein I found my Son attacking his heritage, us Brits. brought Civilization to the World, we "Never threw away" an important commodity, such as Tea"., we were nice to people, well, most of the time,We gave the world "The Beatles, Twiggy, Mini- Skirts, William S., not to forget Winston, even Benny Hill., and Monty.(the Snake).
As for the braves, any teams fans who travel to the opposing teams stadium, therein upon taking a lead, they "whip out" Tomahawk facsimiles", and make "weird" noises, I witnessed this at DODGER Stadium, how rude of them.
If they did that at yankee Stadium, they would have gotten a "thoroughly good Arse Whooping".
Also, any team owner who "slept " with "Hanoi Jane" must have "the clap" for life., it was quite prevalent in Vietnamese circles (circa. 60s-70s), as for me well, I got lucky, as I always do., then again Jane would not have liked me, well that Jane anyway.
She could behave that way "only in America".
As for Sheffield, well "the malcontent" is good as long as his team is winning, wait for the "downhill spiral", he will "sulk if he does not get his ice cream with extra sprinkles."
As for Cox, he spits too much, possibly in the direction of his pitching coach, who has to "twitch, to avoid the splatter", it's a wonder his hat does not fall off more often.
As for you
florida Guys, you are "A, OK", you too Baltimore

I remember the days when I forgot the Braves even existed... it all ended in '91 with the Brett Butler vs. Terry Pendleton MVP race... Terry who? The Braves are in the pennant race? Um, what?

The List: 10 cases of East Coast bias.

#10 best explains it to me at the very end of it("Nails")

That is so right & so very true! The truth hurts!

There definately is an East Coast bias. You can prodominently blame the East Coast main stream media & the New York media even more so! The entire nation would benefit if the New York media & the New York Yankees just became extinct all together. As long as those 2 evil entities exist, things will unfortunately never change!

The New York media & the New York Yankees are the real cancers that drive the East Coast bias!
