And this story doesn't even involve the Dodgers.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1661751

A.J. Pierzynski to the Giants. A very good addition to an already very good team (I think this guy has a lot of upside). He's not even 27 yet... hit over .300 the last two seasons. Shall we give the Giants the pennant now?

I think San Diego is going to be the N.L. team to beat next year.

I haven't paid any attentionto San Diego... at first, I thought you were joking, but then I remembered that Nevin is coming back.

But, what kind of pitching do they have? Peavy? Hoffman?

Padres
11/23/03, 7:08pm
From what I have heard and read and seen, the Padres seem to be signing some talent. They have Nevin and Klesko and they just signed Brian Giles and they are rumored to be in the market for Javy Lopez and Greg Maddox. They are also in the market for a Japanese reliever naamed Otsuka and are trading Mark Kotsay to Oakland for Terrence Long and Hernandez.

I agree with you regarding their offense... incredible.

But their pitching? Where it is... just take a look at my beloved Dodgers, who had the wworst "Team Batting" stats in the majors... yes, even worse than the Tigers!

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/statistics?stat=teamb
at&league=mlb

But had the best "Team Pitching" stats... and, as a result,
they won 85 games.

Without pitching, I don't think the Padres will be contenders.

I do believe that they have a better shot of getting to the playoffs than my lowly Dodgers (even with the Dodger pitching).

Greg Maddux won't help anything. He is most definitely on the down swing of his career. He turns 38 at the start of next season -- not Clemens' 41, so maybe he can stretch a few more years... but I don't think it will be too pretty. He had moments of brilliance last year, but those moments were very few.
