One thing I love about photography is that you can take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. With a camera anything can become an impromptu subject. You can go hunting bear and end up photographing insects or vice versa. This past week I was trying to photograph the elusive space shuttle and ended up photographing everything from crabs to osprey to rabbits to butterflies.....just no spacecraft. :D

Here are a couple of animal photos from two recent journeys to watch the Space Shuttle get cancelled. Took the time coming back to tour some parks.

These are a few F 22 Raptor photos I took during an air show earlier this year.

I am sitting at the computer watching as overcast dreary weather seems to be moving in. A belted kingfisher is sitting on his familiar perch on a boathouse in the backyard. I have never been able to get close enough to it for a quality photo. I see him often. Funny how I go across country and get photographs of all kind of fabulous animals and this little belted kingfisher practically lives in...   (more)     | |

I really love spending time in nature observing wild animals. I have heard some activists say that animals should never be taken into captivity for the purpose of being entertainment attractions for people. I was considering the merits of this argument one time as I was at the Lowland Gorilla exhibit at Busch Gardens in Tampa. I was thrilled to watch these animals move about and interact with one another. Something struck me as I was watching a male silverback gorilla. I realized that he was an ambassador for his species. That his being on display prompted donations to research and habitat preservation…and that his life in captivity was not completely drab…that he had social...   (more)     | |
