Using some of my new photo edit software I was able to take a basically unusable photo...one of my wolf blurries from last year's Alaska trip in the Brooks Range.........and bring out something rather artistic. It reminds me a little of my rodeo images from a few weeks ago. The photo is basically unchanged other than the crop and adjustments for brightness and lighting and sharpening. It looks kind of like a painting. I think I'll frame it as art...accidental art...but art none-the-less. :) | Last comment by: Dr. Rub @ 3/26/06, 12:09pm | 1 comment >> Link   | | |
A Few More Myakka River Kayak Trip Photos Posted by: Robert Jones |
|
For the first time this year I have been able to set work aside for a week and take some time to do some other things. I had to burn 48 hours of leave acrued earlier this year. I haven't taken much time to do photography outside of work or do much else for that matter. These are some photos I took during a kayak trip on the Myaka River last November. For one reason or another these did not make my selection cut when I posted on that trip...but upon review I decided to share. Blue Heron with Prey

A month or so ago I received an invite from a friend who lives on Gap Pond in the Sand Hills area of Northwest Florida. It is a beautiful area with an abundance of wildlife. | Last comment by: Larry Levy @ 6/6/08, 8:53am | 1 comment >> Link   | | |

I took last Saturday to go watch the space shuttle launch. It is a little over a six hour drive from here....but I decided to swing through Tampa to pick up a couple of friends, one of which has never seen a launch. I did not count on traffic and a lack of place to get gas along the Beeline so Elvis left the building before we got to Titusville....but at least we got to see him leave as we were sitting on the side of the Beeline Expressway about 10 miles from Canaveral. My camera gear has been sitting stagnant for about six months as I have been totally engrossed in work so in rush to get...   (more)     | |

I did take a break from a busy year recently to upgrade my ride. I now have a Toyota FJ Trails Edition 4x4. I love this truck. The attached picture was taken with my cell phone as I bought it right off of the show room floor. I have never purchased a show room vehicle before and have only had one brand new vehicle before this one. I am thrilled with it. I traded my Jeep in. | Last comment by: Randy Edwards @ 6/23/08, 5:47pm | 7 comments >> Link   | | |

I am always asked, "Just how close are these encounters. I photogaphed one involving Jay at Myakka. For reference, Jay is sitting in a 14' kayak.

I spent a part of yesterday afternoon over at Weedon Island Preserve. This small park is only about 4 miles away. These were some of the images I was able to capture. Enjoy.

Trying to get good photos of manatees has proven to be a rather difficult task. You get humps and flippers and noses but rarely a whole animal. Here is what I got from an afternoon jaunt to the TECO Electric viewing platform near Tampa. The manatees come up in the warm water canals. Typically when I get my photos on computer I have several that take my breath away. Unfortunately I did not get that effect this time....bt being in the presence of these animals did have that effect. They are absolutely beautiful and amazing creatures. This manatee seemed to have numbers branded on it somehow. This animal was at the TECO viewing platform area...   (more)     | |

This last one has distinctive scars from being struck by most likely a boat propellor. These markings (scars), though tragic, are useful in indentifying individual animals for study.

This was a beautiful ray loose and live in Tampa Bay This was a blacktip(I am pretty sure) shark that was perusing the warm water canals.
